Campaign Facts

• The last comprehensive campaign at South Dakota State University was Visions for the Future at
  campaign, the first ever conducted at SDSU, had an overall goal of $50 million. When completed in
  1998, the campaign had raised $52 million.
• The campus-wide strategic planning process that began in 2007 demonstrated the need to initiate a
  comprehensive campaign for SDSU. The strategic plan laid out the vision for our institution. A
  feasibility study, conducted in early 2008 by the J.F. Smith Group, confirmed the viability of this
  campaign.
• It Starts with STATE has a working goal of $190 million. The feasibility study gathered input from
  nearly 2,200 alumni and friends to determine support for this goal. The campaign will run through
  December 31, 2012.
• All gifts received by the Foundation are counted in the campaign total. Annual fund gifts will count
  toward the campaign’s goal. All gifts to the Foundation are tax-deductible by law.
• Every college, department and unit will benefit from this campaign. The impact of scholarships,
  endowments, facility enhancements, professorships, endowed chairs and the Funds for Excellence
  will reach every academic college and program on campus.
• Pledges may be made over a five-year period. Pledge payments may be made with cash, check
  and credit card. Supporters also may transfer assets to fulfill campaign commitments. Planned gifts
  are also counted in this campaign.
• Multiple areas may benefit from your campaign contribution. On your campaign pledge card, simply
  designate the areas of campus you want your gift to benefit.
• There is widespread support on campus for the comprehensive campaign. Every employee of the
  SDSU Foundation has made a financial commitment to It Starts with STATE. More than 30
  members of the SDSU faculty and staff are serving in campaign leadership positions.
