McCrory Gardens

Beauty is its own excuse for being. However, McCrory Gardens serve a more practical purpose. Ongoing research provides new information to the scientific community and the public on the introduction, cultivation and arrangement of native and domesticated plants. The Gardens also serve as an outdoor teaching laboratory for undergraduate and graduate students at SDSU.

In 1985, faced with major funding cuts, alumni, the Brookings community, horticultural enterprises and associations throughout the state began an annual fundraising drive to keep the Gardens open and growing. An endowment, managed by the SDSU Foundation, was established in 1986. Since that time, maintenance and development at McCrory Gardens has been supported by public donations of money, equipment, labor, seed, plants and other supplies. The ‘Friends of McCrory Gardens’ are a continuing source of enthusiastic support.
