Education and Human Sciences
Affecting change in the world
At the heart of the disciplines housed in the College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) is the concept of transformation. Graduates of CEHS transform the lives of people around the world every day.
The new College of Education and Human Sciences at South Dakota State University resulted from the transformation and collaboration of:
- The College of Education and Counseling (former)
- The College of Family and Consumer Sciences (former)
- The Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation
These programs teamed up to design a vibrant community whose mission is to “develop the human potential by advancing teaching, learning, and scholarship for the purpose of enhancing individual, family, school, and community well-being.”
With a wide array of career opportunities, graduates of the College of Education and Human Sciences will find themselves in the unique position of truly affecting change by instilling confidence, composure, dignity, and aesthetic appreciation in individuals throughout the global community.
Scholarships
Scolarships are the number one priority for the college. The College of Education and Human Sciences is attracting the brightest and best in the region, and there has never been a greater need for student support. Today’s economy has made it more difficult than ever to afford college and South Dakota State students need your help. Providing financial assistance to these students in need means the opportunity to help realize the dream of an aspiring professional.
Due to the College’s increasing enrollment numbers and because of the high quality of students admitted, the College is committed to establishing new Jackrabbit Guarantee named scholarships for our undergraduate students.
The College of Education and Human Sciences is also home to the largest population of graduate students at South Dakota State University. We are pursuing additional scholarships for the Ph.D. and master’s degree students. We hope you’ll support a student’s future through a gift today.
There are many scholarship opportunities to participate in, including:
- Jackrabbit Guarantee - $1,000 annual commitment
- Annually Funded Scholarships - amounts vary, however gifts of at least $500 to $1,000 are suggested
- Build an Endowment - an account wherein your monies grow and accrue toward endowment
- Endowed Scholarships - A $20,000 account earns interest and awards annually, corpus remains in perpetuity
- Memorial and Honor Scholarships - can be annual or endowed scholarships
The College’s current priorities:
- Faye Tyler Wade Food Laboratory — The laboratory has created state-of-the-art, multi-functional work space for teaching, cooking, dining, and entertaining.
- Outdoor Learning Laboratory at the Fishback Center for Early Childhood Development – The outdoor playground provides an environment to stimulate the imaginations of students who attend pre-school and kindergarten and a training ground for SDSU’s early childhood education majors.
